And the winning entry is from my neice Samantha Smith who nominated Hey Ho by the Lumineers as it was playing on the radio when they brought their first born daughter Matilda home for the first time from the hospital. Sam said ” I remember we were driving across Blackheath Common and the lyrics “I belong with you, you belong with me, you’re my sweetheart” really resonated in that special moment! I will always remember it” .
Second place goes to Paul Soper who nominated Father, Son by Peter Gabriel. Paul said ” This idea of your dad being always by your side, whether he’s still here or not and regardless of how old you are is, for me, very life affirming – despite my own father leaving this earth for new adventures 21 years ago, I still keep those wonderful images and memories of him “by my side” to see me through life.”
Third place goes to Paul Bleach for his wonderful nomination of ‘Wuthering Heights’ by Kate Bush 1978 as Paul pointed out ” The first woman to get to number 1 with a song she had written herself” .
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Just One Song Challenge . We have had some wonderful entries and it was great fun reading them and seeing how passionatley people feel about music. In these difficult times for charities across the UK it was nice to raise some money via this initiative.
